Operation Backpack

PURPOSE

To provide 500 students at Jordan Elementary School in Chicago with a personalized, individually wrapped package of school supplies to start the school year.

WHO WE SERVE

We serve families who struggle to financially provide new school supplies for their children, due to family problems and living conditions that impact daily life. In some cases, just surviving is a triumph. But there is one common thread connecting them all: Education is a key that will unlock their best potential for growth and a happy life.

WHAT WE DO

We provide school supplies, everything from backpacks to pencils. We are proud that this program has no administrative costs! Volunteers do all the purchasing and planning, and North Shore Congregation Israel handles the financial administration without charge. EVERY DOLLAR RECEIVED BENEFITS THE CHILDREN. Each classroom sends a list of needed supplies and quantities and our volunteers fill and box the orders. The orders are loaded into trucks and delivered to Jordan school for the start of the new school year.
