EREV ROSH HASHANAH
Wednesday, October 2nd / 1 Tishri 5784
4:30 PM Family Tashlich (Lake Shore Country Club Beach). Led by Rabbi Leizman with music by Alan Goodis. We will meet by the playground in front of NSCI and walk down to the beach together. Optional BYO picnic dinner and blanket. Rain location: Rebecca K. Crown Hall.
This program is open to both NSCI congregants and non-congregants. Registration required.
5:30 PM NSCI “Friday Night Style” Service (Large Sanctuary). Rabbi Geffen will offer a sermon (same sermon for the 8:00 PM Traditional Service). Music by Cantor Goldstein, Alan Goodis, and Kabbalat Shabbat vocalists and instrumentalists.
8:00 PM Traditional Service (Large Sanctuary). Rabbi Geffen will offer a sermon (same sermon for the 5:30 PM Traditional Service). Music by Cantor Goldstein with the High Holy Day Choir and Stone Family Organ.

9:00 AM L’dor Vador Intergenerational Service (Large Sanctuary). Rabbi Geffen will tell a story. Music by Selah (teen song leaders) and Alan Goodis.
9:00 AM or 10:15 AM Tot Service (Rebecca K. Crown Social Hall). Led by Rabbi Greene with music by Freedman Family Singers. This service is open to both NSCI congregants and non-congregants. Registration is required.
11:30 AM Traditional Service (Large Sanctuary) Rabbi Leizman will offer a sermon. Music by Cantor Goldstein with the High Holy Days Choir and Stone Family Organ.
11:30 AM Kehilah: What’s the Deal with the High Holy Days? (Tross Family Education Center). Learn about the High Holidays, engage in some New Year’s reflection, and eat apple pie! All 8th–12th graders are invited to join us for this special open Kehilah program. Click here to RSVP.
2:30 PM Children’s Service (Large Sanctuary). Rabbi Geffen will tell a story. Music by Alan Goodis. Children’s services are for children grades K–3, accompanied by a caregiver.

10:00 AM Second Day Service (Perlman Patio or Perlman Sanctuary with inclement weather). Includes an interactive teaching by Rabbi Leizman. Music by Cantor Goldstein. For those who wish, Tashlich at Lake Michigan will follow the service.

Is This the Fast I Desire? A Conversation about the Jewish Experience on Campus (Tross Family Education Center). Join us on Yom Kippur afternoon for a panel conversation about the Jewish experience on college campuses. The panel will feature Dr. Lilah Shapiro, a sociologist in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, Stevan Betancourt, the Director of Campus Ministry at Loyola University of Chicago, and Hannah Dalinka, a sophomore at the University of Michigan.
The panel will be facilitated by Rabbi Jacob Leizman.
Contemplative Music (Perlman Sanctuary). Music to support meditation, thought, and meaning.
3:30 PM* Afternoon Mincha Service (Large Sanctuary). Led by NSCI Clergy with music by Cantor Goldstein.
4:15 PM* Remembering October 7th. In addition to prayers throughout the High Holy Days, this year we will be offering a special Eileh Ezkerah (“These I will Remember”) service, after Mincha but before Yizkor, to honor the victims of October 7th and its aftermath, as well as to pray for the hostages and soldiers as we hold out hope for peace.
4:30 PM* Yizkor Service (Large Sanctuary). Rabbi Greene will deliver a Yizkor reflection. Music by Cantor Goldstein with the High Holy Day Choir and Stone Family Organ.
5:30 PM* Neilah/Concluding Service (Large Sanctuary). Led by NSCI Clergy (service will conclude no later than 6:15 PM).
