Pride Shabbat Service

Friday, August 25, 2023 8 Elul 5783

6:15 PM - 7:15 PMNSCI

Join us for our annual Pride Shabbat service, featuring guest speaker Rabbi Daniel Bogard. Rabbi Bogard will share his family’s story of raising a trans child while serving as a congregational rabbi. He will discuss his efforts to protect his child and others threatened by recent governmental attempts to limit the freedom of trans people as well as what parents need to know about their rights. Rabbi Bogard will also share wisdom from thousands of years of Jewish texts that affirm that as long as there have been Jews, there have been trans Jews. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate and learn about the diversity of gender expression in our Jewish community.

Rabbi Daniel Bogard is proud to be a native St. Louisian. He grew up at Central Reform Congregation, and spent his summers as a song-leader at camps Ramot Amoona and Sabra. After rabbinical school, the Bogards moved to Peoria, IL, where they shared a job as community rabbis. In addition to his work as a rabbi at Congregation Anshai Emeth, Daniel also taught in the Religious Studies Department of Bradley University and served as the director of Bradley's Hillel. After five wonderful years in Peoria, the Bogards spent two years in Cincinnati, where Daniel and Karen again shared a rabbi job (Adath Israel Congregation), and Daniel additionally served as the Rabbi in Residence of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio and an adjunct lecturer at Hebrew Union College's Cincinnati campus.

Today, Daniel is excited and honored to be a part of the rabbinic team at Central Reform Congregation. He is one of the founders of Camp Indigo Point, a camp for trans, gender expansive, and LGBTQ+ kids that brings together 150+ campers from 30+ states for two life-changing weeks each summer. He is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute and is adjunct faculty at Eden Theological Seminary.
