1:00 PM - 2:30 PMRebecca K. Crown Social HallThe North Shore, that remarkable string of affluent Illinois suburban towns, is more than tree-lined streets and quaint downtowns. A new book, Secret North Shore–Chicago: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure, by former Glencoe resident Ellen Shubart, reports on “hidden” gems that elicit the “I didn’t know that was there” responses by many. Join us for a review of some of the weird, wonderful, and obscure sites on the Shore, some perhaps that you’ve never heard of, or have heard of but don’t know their secrets – like why the Baha’i Temple sparkles, or where the last remnant of Illinois’s prairie landscape still grows. Among the wonders she writes about is our own North Shore Congregation Israel, a gem in plain sight.
