There is before Isaac Bashevis Singer and then there is after. Yiddish culture in Europe was transplanted to America and received its biggest boost as a world culture when Isaac Bashevis Singer received the Nobel Prize for Literature. Yet his influence went beyond the Yiddish language and entered into film through The Magician of Lublin, Yentl, and Enemies A Love Story, and spread into opera, humor, Jewish-American culture, and more. We will take a look at him through selections of his literature, the works that made it into other art forms, popular culture, and his life.
