7th Grade

7th grade students come to school on Tuesdays 4:15-6:15 for “Becoming a Jewish Adult.”  Everyone is together for the class period including a short break with snacks.  Monthly, our students participate in either Rosh Chodesh or Shevat Achim, courses designed to combine exploration of teen issues with Jewish sources and community building taught by our rabbis or youth group advisors.

So, you’re a Jewish adult…now what?  Learning  prayers, practicing Torah and writing speeches. But what comes next? What does it actually mean to be a Jewish adult and what responsibility comes along with that? Join us as we explore Jewish identity—what it looks like for others and for you as and individual and  Jewish Ethics - including the purpose of prayer, concepts of mitzvot (commandments), kavod (honor), bushah (insult), tzedakah (righteous deeds), and gemilut chasidim (acts of loving kindness). In this discussion-based class, students are often presented with difficult situations and encouraged to formulate an opinion and debate solutions. In addition to identity formation, this course includes discussions about modern day anti-Semitism and an in depth look at the Holocaust from a uniquely Jewish perspective.

Private tutoring and other B’nei Mitzvah preparation meetings begin 6-12 months before their B’nei Mitzvah as well. For more details about the B’nei Mitzvah preparation, please click here.

7th Grade Jr. Machonik-Sundays 9:00 am-11:00 am or Wednesdays 4:15 pm-6:15 pm

If your student likes working with younger students and learns best when teaching something to someone else, they are invited to help Dr. Goodman and the teachers by being a Jr. Machonik on Sundays or Wednesdays. Most of the help needed midweek is with Hebrew in 3rd or 4th grade classes or Individualized Instruction, as a tutor. Let us know when your 7th grader is available.
