Purim Mitzvah Project for Family Promise Chicago North Shore

Purim Mitzvah Project for Family Promise Chicago North Shore

To celebrate being saved from Haman’s evil decree, the Megillah instructs us to observe Purim as a holiday of merrymaking and an occasion for sending matanot l’evyonim, “presents to the poor.”

Purim is another reminder that we are obligated as Jews to demonstrate empathy for others in need, especially those whose worlds have been flipped upside down due to the hardships of homelessness.

As part of NSCI’s Purim celebration this year, please consider assembling packages of much-needed household items and sweet treats for families who are experiencing temporary homelessness and currently being supported by Family Promise Chicago North Shore.

Please purchase only the items listed below, assemble them in either a decorative basket or reusable shopping bag, and bring assembled matanot l’evyonim (“presents to the poor”) to North Shore Congregation Israel (1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe) from March 13-20*.

  • Toilet Paper (4-Pack)
  • Liquid Hand Soap (7.5 oz)
  • Laundry Detergent Pods
  • Multipurpose Disinfectant Spray or Wipes
  • Coloring Book + Crayons for the kids!
  • Small Bag of Candy for the kids!

* Please bring donations to NSCI’s Administrative Office outer lobby during regular business hours (Mon-Thurs, 9am-5pm and Fri, 9am-4pm). Call ahead to let us know you’re coming: (847) 835-0724.
