Family Promise

Family Promise 2020: Sunday Evening, June 7 - Sunday Morning, June 21
We are so excited for the opportunity to again partner with Family Promise Chicago North Shore from June 7-21, but as you can well imagine, it will look different this year. Please continue reading to learn all of the ways that you and your family can participate in this important community mitzvah project. We are so grateful to all of you who have supported this initiative in the past, and of course welcome new volunteers this year!
An Update from Family Promise Chicago North Shore:

For the past few months Family Promise has housed the families who are in the program in hotels. While the families are right now housed in a hotel in Evanston, there is a possibility that they will move to a different location in Evanston or nearby North Shore neighborhood. The cost of hotel accommodations is just not sustainable and so they are exploring other possible housing options. One possibility is a local church rectory.
As you can imagine, many of the families who recently secured permanent housing and were doing well are now struggling in the current environment. Like so many others, some have lost jobs and have little savings. Family Promise is also working to assist these recently graduated families with housing as well as groceries and other household necessities.

How Can You Help?

Provide Dinner For 3-4 Families
Click HERE to sign up to provide a meal for up to 4 families (2-3 people per family) who are currently experiencing temporary homelessness and are being supported by Family Promise Chicago North Shore. Right now the need is only dinners from June 7-June 20 delivered around 6:00 pm each day. Dinners can either be store bought, delivered by a local restaurant or homemade, but meals must be individually wrapped per family and delivered to the families for them to enjoy separately.
If the families move out of the hotel and are housed elsewhere, we may also then need to provide the families with breakfast and lunch items (June 8-21).
Purchase e-Gift Cards
Please consider donating e-gift cards for Amazon, Target, Walmart or other box stores that you can email to Rabbi Daniels (, and he will forward for Family Promise to distribute among their active clients as well as to recent graduates of the program.
Volunteer-At-Home Mitzvah Project Opportunities with Family Promise
Family Promise Chicago North Shore is collecting the following in-kind donations. If you would like to donate anything from the list below, please email Ann Weisberg at

  • Disinfecting Wipes (not spray)
  • Dove Bar Soap
  • Hand Lotion

Other local congregations have organized Zoom meetings to read books to the families’ school-age children. If this might be something that interests you, please email Ann Weisberg at to discuss further.

As we are sure you’ll understand, the families’ situations may change daily and so the only thing we know for sure is our need to be flexible. Please contact Ann Weisberg ( or Rabbi Daniels ( if you have any questions.
Thank you so much for being part of this holy work!
