Support for the Roberts Family

Dear Friends,

We write to let you know that one of our NSCI families, the Roberts Family, has been greatly impacted by the tragic event of this past Monday. Both Keely and her 8-year-old son, Cooper, were shot while attending the 4th of July parade in Highland Park. Keely was seriously injured, but will recover. However, Cooper was shot in the chest, his spinal cord was severed, and he is currently in critical condition. After being Life Flighted to a hospital in Chicago and after several surgeries, Cooper is fighting as hard as he can. The family is hopeful that he will be ok, but the road ahead will be incredibly challenging. The family asks that we pray for Cooper. Cooper’s twin brother Luke was also injured. Thankfully, he has been treated, released from the hospital, and is recuperating.

Our Hands of Chesed team is currently providing meals for the family. If you are interested in helping provide a meal, please fill out this form here and we will get your name to the coordinator. You can also donate funds in support of this effort to nsci.org/give and direct them to Hands of Chesed in the dropdown menu under “Type.”

If you would like to send a note/card to share your support and good wishes, please drop that off in the collection bin at the office entrance to NSCI.

We appreciate that so many of you wish to help and ask that you focus your efforts on the avenues that the family has requested. As more opportunities to help support the Roberts family arise, we will let you know.

A brief story about Cooper from WGN can be found here.

We know you join us in the prayers of healing and comfort for Jason, Keely, Peyton, Emily, Ella, Grace, Luke and Cooper.

L'Shalom,

Rabbi Wendi Geffen
