Why support operation Backpack?

Dear Friends,

As we approach yet another school year of navigating the challenges of access to safe and effective education during a pandemic, we remain committed to the staff and students at Jordan Community School in Chicago. Jordan anticipates holding in-person learning next year, but must also have contingency plans for virtual learning if COVID cases rise. This is particularly challenging for the Jordan community as nearly 95% of the students are from low-income families and many don’t have the proper devices, internet access, and supplies at home that are needed for a virtual learning environment.

You may be thinking, “What can I possibly do to help?” Most importantly right now, please consider donating to support Operation Backpack. With your assistance we will be able to provide each of Jordan’s 500+ students with a personalized, individually wrapped package of school supplies for them to have whether they are able to return to their classrooms or must continue learning at home. We are proud that this program has no administrative costs! Volunteers do all the purchasing and planning, and North Shore Congregation Israel handles the financial administration without charge. EVERY DOLLAR RECEIVED BENEFITS THE CHILDREN.

We are grateful for your support of Operation Backpack in the past, and ask you to continue your support by making a tax-deductible financial contribution. Please make your check payable to North Shore Congregation Israel, and write “Operation Backpack” in the memo field. Mail your donation to North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe, IL 60022. You may also donate online to NSCI’s Operation Backpack Fund at

Thank you for your generosity and partnership in supporting Jordan’s wonderful students.
